I just wanted to post here again to clarify I was not criticizing the AoD map per se - only the colors used. The important thing to remember is that AoD map color scheme can be greatly improved using Tripartite Pack and/or playing Third Reich Mod. Yes, I wish rivers had names and perhaps placing the beach icon in the correct ocean would be helpful. And no eye strain.īut as regards the other part of the AoD map - the geography - I'm OK with it. Kind of hard to describe, but just a much better use of subtle color as fits a war game, IMO. When I look at the color schemes used in other game maps, I usually see something that is much more pleasing with a great combination of artistically successful color choices so I get a 'feel' for the battle ground. On Political Map Mode others have complained about the 'over-saturated blue' of the USA, the 'desertic yellow' of Japan, the 'heaviness' of the SU red, and the list includes nearly every color used. It really leads to eye strain if looking too long at the weather map mode and being assailed by overly bright white snow blinding one from seeing the map text and other details. Hearts of Iron 4 wields complexity like a swift armor division during the blitzkrieg, allowing it to serve the idea of layered, cerebral, strategic warfare instead of letting it needlessly bog down the experience. My dislike of the colors used in AoD is that they are - to my eyes - quite garish (excessively vivid, distressingly bright and glaring). The other consideration is simply the combination of colors used to make the map 'come alive'. The first is the actual map as relates to correct geography, and how countries are split as to political regions. When discussing a map I think there are two considerations.
